Treat yourself to a wonderful walk along the banks of Eskilstunaån (river) and discover some of the city´s finest and most interesting sites.

Eskilstuna in one hour - a walk through the city

1. Rademachersmedjorna (forges)

This is where Eskilstuna built up its excellent reputation as a smithy city. Today, the area is an open-air museum featuring craftsmen, shops, cafés and restaurants.

2. Munktellstaden

You can easily spend hours in Munktellstaden, admiring the wonderful exhibits at Eskilstuna Art Museum or the Munktell Museum, for example. It is also here you will find the modern Volvo CE Arena (former Stiga Sports Arena), the local brewery Eskilstuna Ölkultur and the Munktellbadet swimming centre.

3. Klosters church

In the heart of Stadsparken (the city park) stands Klosters church, the perfect place to enjoy a moment of quiet reflection. Designed by the well-known architect Otar Hökerberg, the church was completed in 1929.

4. Gamla staden (Old Town)

From the church, follow Strandgatan south-east until you come to Gamla staden (Old Town). Dating back to the 1100s, this is the center of the original Eskilstuna and the oldest part of the current city. The area is filled with fashion and interior design stores, delicatessens, art galleries, beauty parlours and cafés.

5. Fristadstorget (square)

Fristadstorget square is the heart of the city today, with a market and all kinds of other activities throughout the year. While you watch people coming and going, make sure to checkout Pin-Point, the spectacular 22-metre-high sculpture created by Olov Tällström.
